  1. Good start.
Lets try to use the template to consolidate the early work-
    – “Place Branding Identity”
    – 3 sentence thesis paragraph
    – Timeline- weekly. good. What do you see changing weekly? This may not require indicator research but diagramming by you.
    – Mapping- lets try to get the survey-grasshopper-illustrator (post processing) workflow assisting with this.
    – Do trust me about the study block starting with a simple square block. This is important to begin to see your project as a unitized system such as the Eixample Grid and the tiling exercise. We want to be able to build this in Grasshopper.
**In general continue to push lines (stroke) over shaded areas (fill). This also will make selected curves in Grasshopper more integrated from your diagrams.
***Do get a simple elevational method of measuring the qualitative / types of storefronts AND a type of overall quality for the street. Maybe keep an eye out for this elsewhere in the city. In Berlin for example there is often only one storefront amongst an entire street of ground floor residence. Still this one storefront defines the quality of the street. Can you organize this into types? Think about this for other neighborhoods we have seen. Do consider the unfolded elevation- sharp line diagrams to explain this.
Cheers. Again. good start. Do trust the suggestions as they are part of an overall process of building a system from the unit analog bottom to a more digital parametric approach.

  2. I like the idea of studying the nature of business vitality, especially the physical characteristics. You also showed a thorough and intensive language from Granada. Also from your experience in Granada, you must move toward the relationships most relevant to you. What factors were most relevant? What thesis will you test with your research? If its longevity of business and spatial characteristics, focus on mapping this and let go of less-relevant characteristics. Also, use a succinct diagram language to lay out the problem observed here, in a manner that persuades. A key to your granada findings, a few diagrams that illuminate more about that urban room condition, could put forward a persuasive architectural hypothesis to be tested by research. How does the unit, the urban room space, vary and change the nature of both business frequency, success, and longevity? What manner or age patterns emerge? How can the city act on it? Andres and I suggested a bottom-up approach based on our findings… does this suggest actions that can be taken on by individual owners or entrenepeurs? Developing a physical mapping of a type of 2d/3d spatial condition could yield a really novel interpretation of the city, based on your urban room/storefront diagram. Iterate on the base drawings you have, suggesting layers of information or the development of an idea based on these frameworks. You should be able to show how selecting an urban room space, and layers slides of characteristics, seems to animate and illuminate a correlated nature of urban spaces.
